Manchester United finally agree deal for Rasmus Hojlund transfer

Manchester United have reached a ‘verbal agreement’ over a deal for Rasmus Hojlund to leave Old Trafford.

By excluding the striker from his matchday teams at the beginning of the 2025–26 season, Ruben Amorim made it apparent that he wanted Hojlund to leave.

Despite being Manchester United’s first-choice striker the previous season, Hojlund had a terrible season in front of goal, managing just four league goals.

Since acquiring Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig for £74 million, United has been receptive to proposals for Hojlund.

Hojlund wanted to stay put and fight for his spot, but he has come to terms with the fact that Amorim’s harsh selections have ended his Manchester United career.

Earlier this week, Napoli emerged as the front-runners to reach an agreement after several clubs expressed interest in signing the 22-year-old.

Gianluca Di Marzio, an Italian transfer specialist, claims that United and Napoli have now come to a “verbal agreement” about a deal and a fee for Hojlund.

According to reports, Hojlund will sign a season-long loan with the Serie A powerhouses, and Napoli will have to pay 45 million euros (£39 million) to get him permanently the following summer.

For a player Manchester United acquired from Atalanta in the summer of 2023, that would amount to a loss of about £35 million.

Former United striker Louis Saha feels sorry for the Denmark international, despite Hojlund’s lackluster performance at Old Trafford.

‘I do have sympathy for Rasmus Hojlund,’ he told AdventureGamers. ‘It’s difficult for young players. They commit themselves and try everything, but often they’re not in the right position.

‘He was too young and needed to show confidence, which is incredibly difficult when faced with those kinds of opportunities.

‘This sometimes leads to a lack of the necessary humility for putting in the hard work in areas where it’s truly needed.

‘These things are really hard to learn and perform simultaneously; it’s simply impossible. I have a lot of sympathy because, as a striker, he had to provide that confidence.

‘But at the same time, you have to show humility, work hard, and improve on the simple things. This balance is not easy when you’re 21 or 22.’

Hojlund looks set to leave Manchester United having scored 26 goals in 95 appearances for the Red Devils.

Before the summer transfer window ends on Monday night, United want to sell a number of players, including him.

Amorim’s bomb squad also includes Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Alejandro Garnacho.

On Wednesday, Manchester United lost to League Two team Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup, a humiliating loss.

This weekend, when United hosts Premier League newcomers Burnley at Old Trafford, Amorim will be itching for a response.
