Manchester United are set to include an unexpected clause in Alejandro Garnacho’s proposed move to Chelsea.
The 21-year-old Garnacho has been strongly linked to leaving Manchester United this summer after Ruben Amorim told him he could find another club after the aftermath from the team’s loss to Spurs in the Europa League final back in May.
“I played every round until the final, and I have 20 minutes to play today. After the final, Garnacho remarked, “I don’t know.”
Since then, the Argentine winger has been connected to a number of teams, including Saudi Arabian teams, Chelsea, and Napoli.
Finally, though, a move to Stamford Bridge seems imminent.
The Athletic revealed on Thursday night, August 28, that Chelsea and United have reached an agreement for Garnacho’s signing.
According to the source, the player is expected to sign a contract that will last until 2032 and includes a fixed cost of £40 million.
On Friday, Garnacho is anticipated to get a medical examination.
The 21-year-old will become the first United player to be transferred for a fee this summer if his transfer is finalized.
United may profit from a 10% sell-on clause included in the package in addition to the £40 million fee they are expected to get.
Since his 2022 debut, Garnacho has made 144 appearances for United, tallying 26 goals and 22 assists.
The young player was an unused substitute in the Red Devils’ 2022–2023 Carabao Cup final triumph over Newcastle, and he scored in United’s 2023–2024 FA Cup victory against Manchester City.
After bringing in Jorrell Hato, Estevao, Jamie Gittens, Joao Pedro, Kendry Paez, Mamadou Sarr, Liam Delap, Jesse Derry, and Dario Essugo, Garnacho will be Chelsea’s eighth summer acquisition.
A number of further United players may go before to the deadline of September 1.
According to numerous reports, Rasmus Hojlund’s proposed loan agreement with Napoli is almost final, and Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Thursday.
Romano wrote: “Matter of short time and Rasmus Højlund will become a new Napoli player.”
The out-of-favour Antony is linked with a second loan to Real Betis, while Jadon Sancho has been heavily linked with a switch to AS Roma.
