According to reports, if Bayer Leverkusen loses their second game of the Bundesliga season, former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag could be fired.
Jarell Quansah, a former Liverpool defender, scored six minutes into the first weekend’s match, but Leverkusen lost 2-1 to Hoffenheim at home. They now travel to Werder Bremen before to the start of the international break in September.
Ten Hag has already won one game in the German Cup’s opening round, but it was against Sonnenhof Grossaspach, a fourth-tier team. But with a fortnight off after this match, a trip to Bremen this weekend has become even more important.
There is no grace period for Ten Hag, according to Bild, who already appeared helpless following a lackluster showing in their season opener. Leverkusen is reportedly becoming more anxious as defeating Bremen is seen as essential.
That’s what Ten Hag has admitted. His words, “We have to win, that’s clear,”
But the Dutchman continued, echoing a statement from his tenure as Manchester United’s manager: “I’m not Harry Potter. Sometimes there are advancements, and other times there are regressions.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was the first to leave United, and other previous managers have also had a difficult week.
“After getting knocked out of UEFA Conference League tonight, Besiktas Board of Directors held an emergency meeting and decided to part ways with Head Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer,” the club announced on Thursday. After the first leg ended in a tie, Lausanne defeated them 1-0 in Istanbul.
Fenerbahce had lost to Benfica in the Champions League qualifying play-off round the day before. The Portuguese team defeated Turkey 1-0 at home after a 0-0 draw there.
Jose Mourinho then left Fenerbahce a few hours later on Friday morning. A “for public information” club statement wished the Portuguese luck and thanked him for his work.
