Manchester United recorded their first win of the season against Burnley at Old Trafford.
Manchester United defeated Burnley 3-2 in the Premier League to earn their first set of three points this season after only gaining one point from their opening two games.
After Josh Cullen’s own goal, United dominated the first half and deserved to lead 1-0 at halftime. Bruno Fernandes’ free kick was headed against the crossbar by Casemiro, but it bounced off Cullen before it crossed the line, giving the goal.
After the interval, Burnley responded immediately, equalizing through Lyle Foster ten minutes into the second half. However, their happiness was short-lived as Bryan Mbeumo scored from a low cross from Diogo Dalot.
Prior to Jaidon Anthony making it 2-2, Altay Bayindir was once again the center of attention as United’s goalie struggled to handle another corner.
When Amad Diallo was hauled down inside the area during stoppage time, United was given a penalty. Fernandes then scored from the penalty spot to give United the three points.
Man Utd fans are behind Ruben Amorim
Throughout the match, the Old Trafford supporters were vocal, and the Stretford End expressed their opinions to head coach Ruben Amorim, who was under fire.
Days after United’s crushing defeat to League Two team Grimsby Town on penalties in the Carabao Cup second round, there were repeated cries, “Ruben Amorim, he’ll bring the glory days again.”
Even if the media is criticizing Amorim, the supporters of their head coach are standing by them.
Matheus Cunha injury fears
After Matheus Cunha, who had started the game well, was sent off during the first half, United suffered an injury blow.
Amorim benched his forwards and put the Brazil international in the starting lineup for United, but his night was cut short in the 31st minute by what appeared to be a hamstring injury.
Cunha has been called up to the Brazil national team squad for the forthcoming international break, but he won’t know how long he will be in the treatment room until his ailment has been diagnosed.
Amorim is hoping Cunha’s injury isn’t too bad.
Bryan Mbeumo scores his first Premier League goal for Man Utd
Mbeumo scored his first league goal for United to make it 2-1 in what was his best performance while wearing a United shirt.
Throughout the game, Mbeumo gave Burnley difficulties by getting in behind Burnley’s defense with his lightning-fast speed.
United will be depending on Mbeumo to duplicate his performance against Burnley following the international break due to Cunha’s injury.
Amorim doesn’t think Benjamin Sesko is ready to start in the Premier League
The absence of new recruit Benjamin Sesko from the starting lineup was unexpected.
Amorim’s decision to start a striker-less lineup for the third straight game suggests that he doesn’t think Sesko is ready to start league games.
Sesko only had a cameo this evening, entering the game in the 71st minute, but he started for United throughout the week as they lost to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup.
Sloppy defending will prove costly
United was having trouble handling high balls into the box when Burnley scored both of their goals.
While Bayindir didn’t bask in the limelight for Anthony’s goal, Luke Shaw and Dalot were caught dozing off for the first one.
Although United should have won easily, the Red Devils made it difficult for them to defeat Burnley 3-2 due to a lack of focus.
Amorim needs to deal with both this and the goalkeeping issue.
