Just in: Fabrizio Romano says Man Utd make contact to sign Aston Villa star in late deal

GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano claims that Manchester United has made a fresh bid for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Although Lammens’ entrance is still being discussed, United wants to be ready in case the deal falls through, thus Martinez is still on their shortlist of goalkeepers.

In July, United attempted to sign the 2022 World Cup champion, but Villa rejected their loan offer. Villa would probably need to sign a replacement before permitting Martinez to depart at this late stage of the transfer window.

Lammens, a long-term target for United who is rumored to be eager to make a late switch to Old Trafford, is another player the Villans are reportedly interested in.

Man United Eyeing Emiliano Martinez

With two days remaining in the summer transfer window, Romano disclosed on X that Martinez is still on Man United’s shortlist for goalkeeper.

Man United wants to add a goalkeeper before the transfer deadline on Monday, but any newcomers will probably battle with Andre Onana, who is unlikely to leave in the next two days of the window, for a spot in Ruben Amorim’s starting lineup.

Onana only made one appearance in Wednesday’s penalty shootout loss to Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup second round after being benched for United’s opening three Premier League games.

This summer, Martinez was strongly linked to leaving Villa Park, as the West Midlands Club sought to improve their PSR situation by selling first-team players.

If United makes a move for the 32-year-old goalie, who signed a new contract in August of last year and is currently contracted through the summer of 2029, Unai Emery’s team will be in a strong negotiating position.
