Romano: Man Utd ‘make new approach’ for Premier League star as they prepare for ‘deal collapse’

According to trade specialist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United has taken a “new approach” to buy Emiliano Martinez, the goalkeeper for Aston Villa, as they are ready for the Senne Lammens deal to fall through.

Given that his team placed 15th in the Premier League the previous season, Ruben Amorim is under pressure to produce significantly better performances and outcomes this year.

Manchester United supported him during the summer transfer window by spending almost £200 million to recruit Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, and Matheus Cunha to their forward line.

With Altay Bayindir starting every Premier League game and Andre Onana only making one appearance in the League Cup, the opening few games of the season have made it clear how much Man Utd needs a new goalkeeper.

When Onana made two mistakes against Grimsby Town, the League Two team took a 2-0 lead before Manchester United succumbed to the Mariners on penalties.

With a few days remaining in the transfer window, Man Utd’s pursuit of Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Lammens has appeared to be nearing completion for some time.

After their loan approach was turned down earlier in the summer transfer window, Romano now says Manchester United has made another attempt to get Aston Villa goalkeeper Martinez.

“EXCL: Manchester United makes new approach with Aston Villa for Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez,” Romano wrote on X. Senne Lammens’ negotiations are still in progress, and Manchester United wants to be prepared in case the transaction falls through with less than 48 hours to go.and Dibu’s new strategy with Villa and his camp was implemented.

Red Devils legend Gary Neville stated last weekend that he believed Onana could ask to go, and Bayindir started once more as Manchester United defeated newly promoted Burnley 3-2 on Saturday.

Neville told NBC Sports, in response to a question concerning Manchester United’s interest in Lammens: “I’ve been asking around about that one this morning and spoke to a few people at United.”

“The feeling is the new boy coming in would probably be a No. 2 who would start on the bench, but they absolutely do need a No. 1.

“The main priority for United is still goals and we think Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko are going to do that. We think Onana will start today but that situation isn’t right.

“Bayindir came in last week but he makes a lot of mistakes. Now that Onana knows United have been scouting around Europe for a new goalkeeper and replacement for him, his confidence must be shot at and he must be thinking he wants to get out.

“They have to deal with that. That and the central midfielder slot next to Bruno [Fernandes] are the two things they need to get sorted this week [before the transfer deadline].”
