Alejandro Garnacho has seen a number of his former Manchester United teammates share their opinions on the Argentine’s departure since he made the £40 million move to Chelsea. After his trade to Stamford Bridge was finalized last weekend, the 21-year-old left United. He was part of the ‘Bomb Squad’ at Carrington for the summer, along with fellow misfit Jadon Sancho, who on the day of the deadline agreed to move to Aston Villa.
Garnacho thanked United for fostering his growth in an emotional social media homage following his departure. “Hi Manchester. This unique chapter in my life is now coming to an end after five incredible years,” he wrote on Instagram. “We have created moments that will stay with me forever, and I’m very grateful for this.”
“To the coaches, staff, and my teammates, thank you for believing in me. Every time I wore the badge, I gave everything I had. I leave proud of what we achieved together and I’m also excited for what’s to come. Wishing the club nothing but success for the future, while I look forward to giving my all in the next chapter of my career.”
Kobbie Mainoo was amongst the first to respond, having been prevented from departing United in recent days himself, despite Ruben Amorim’s apparent unwillingness to provide him frequent opportunities in the heart of midfield. When the England midfielder wrote, “All the best bro,”
Sam Murray, a former United defender who joined Carlisle United of the National League earlier this year, wrote: “All the best, Hermano.”
The United players who also “liked” the message included Matthijs de Ligt, Bruno Fernandes, Joshua Zirkzee, Rasmus Hojlund, Mainoo, Toby Collyer, and Dan Gore.
After arguing with Amorim last season and being left out of the starting lineup for the Europa League final, Garnacho’s reputation at United took a hit.
His social media behaviour, liking posts suggesting he deserved to start the match, sparked considerable controversy and subsequently, following his outburst in the mixed zone after the final and Amorim indicating he wanted him gone, a departure was inevitable.
