Jadon Sancho is set to sign for Aston Villa in a deadline day transfer and an interesting clause in his Manchester United contract has come to light.
Chelsea had the chance to purchase Sancho permanently for £25 million, but they chose not to and were forced to pay a £5 million penalty. Sancho spent the previous season on loan with Chelsea.
The former Borussia Dortmund player rejoined United, although it was made apparent that he was not a part of Ruben Amorim’s plans. During preseason, he trained apart from the rest of the first team group along with Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia, and Antony.
Sancho was linked to teams like Juventus, Napoli, and Roma, but he turned down a move to the latter in order to consider other possibilities.
The 25-year-old’s patience looks set to pay off as according to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Villa are on the verge of an agreement which will see them secure Sancho’s services on loan.
With 80% of Sancho’s salary covered by Villa following their agreement with United and Rashford last season, the trade just needs to
be finalized.
A borrowing charge will also be paid by Villa, and the agreement includes “achievable bonuses” that might cover the entire wage.
Sancho, who is currently in the last year of a deal that expires in 2026, moved from Dortmund to United in 2021 for a reported £73 million.
As previously mentioned, United can still choose to keep Sancho at Old Trafford until 2027, which could help them recover a transfer cost rather than losing the winger for nothing.
Jadon Sancho to be part of Villa double deal
Villa is putting in a lot of effort to bolster their roster in the closing hours of the transfer window after a quiet summer in which they made two acquisitions.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Villa and Liverpool have reached a verbal agreement for midfielder Harvey Elliott in addition to Sancho.
Villa is need to sign Elliott permanently for a cost of £35 million, but he is likely to join on loan.
Elliott was signed by Liverpool at the age of 16 for a record compensation price, with a sizable sell-on clause from his former team, Fulham.
He made 147 games and won six titles at Anfield, making him a favorite under manager Jurgen Klopp.
