Three players could still leave Man Utd after transfer deadline day

Three Manchester United players could still leave the club this summer despite the summer transfer window closing.

United is working to finish moves on both the incoming and outgoing fronts as the window officially closed on Monday at 7 p.m.

Despite spending nearly £200 million on attackers Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko, Ruben Amorim’s team has had a challenging summer.

However, United failed to bolster their defense, and the Portuguese manager eluded a new midfield player.

After Amorim benched Andre Onana in favor of backup goalie Altay Bayindir, United’s first priority became finding a new goalkeeper.

The club agreed to pay £18.2 million to Royal Antwerp for Senne Lammens, but in order to make a statement on Tuesday, a transaction sheet had to be submitted after 7 p.m.

Regarding departures, Marcus Rashford went on loan to Barcelona, while the team was able to send Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea after Amorim and club officials expressed serious reservations about his demeanor, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Even though the transfer window is closed, other players may yet leave.

The Saudi Pro League transfer market is open until September 10, but the windows for the top five leagues in Europe close at 7 p.m. or, in the case of La Liga, 10:59 p.m. on Monday.

Meanwhile, Turkish Super Lig teams have until September 11 to finalize incoming contracts.

Additionally, the Qatar Stars League window is still open until September 16—albeit an unlikely destination for United players.

Lammens is expected to join Onana, Bayindir, and Tom Heaton as senior goalkeepers, which could help Amorim address his goalkeeping depth issue.

Earlier this summer, Onana was linked to a move to Neom, a recently promoted Saudi Pro League team. According to the Daily Mail, the Cameroon goalkeeper’s departure “cannot be ruled out.”

If the goalie is informed that Lammens will take over as United’s new number one, he might also be looking at the Africa Cup of Nations next year.

With their transfer window still open, a return to Turkey is still a possibility after Bayindir departed Fenerbahce to join United in the summer of 2023.

Tyrell Malacia, a left-back, is the third player who has the potential to leave. He is the only one of United’s five-man “bomb squad” of undesired players who has not signed a contract to leave Old Trafford this summer.

Jadon Sancho’s loan move to Aston Villa is still pending, but Rashford, Garnacho, and Antony all left the team before the deadline.

As per The Athletic, La Liga side Elche attempted to sign Malacia on loan on deadline day but the move fell through, with Saudi Arabia and Turkey looking likely to represent the best of the Dutchman’s options for a last-minute move.
