Manchester United are now weighing up whether to make a bid to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, according to a report from talkSPORT.
Signing a new midfielder appears to be United’s next priority move in the summer transfer window after their initial focus was on strengthening their options in the final third. Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, and Matheus Cunha have already arrived through the door, giving United a new-look attack, but further reinforcements will be necessary if they want to challenge towards the top of the Premier League table.
In United’s opening game of the 2025/2026 season, Ruben Amorim’s side showed plenty of positives, but they ultimately couldn’t get over the line, with Arsenal securing a 1-0 victory at Old Trafford. Mbeumo and Cunha added a new dynamic to their attack, showing pace and danger in the final third, but they couldn’t find a way to beat David Raya.
Man Utd Weighing Up Move to Sign Adam Wharton
According to a report from talkSPORT, Manchester United are weighing up whether to make a bid to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Wharton. The Red Devils were pushing to sign Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, but they’ve cooled their interest after being told by the Seagulls that he’s not for sale in the summer transfer window.
United are now exploring alternative options, with Wharton, who could cost around £70m, a player admired by the Red Devils. A host of other clubs have also scouted the England international, and United might want to get ahead of their rivals by making an offer to secure his signature. It certainly won’t be easy for them to prise him away from Selhurst Park, with the Eagles hoping to keep him this summer.
Against Arsenal at the weekend, United lined up with Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro in the middle of the park. This left Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo on the bench, while they also recently allowed Toby Collyer to depart on loan. United also lost Christian Eriksen in the summer with his contract expiring, so it’s no surprise to see them targeting another option.
Ugarte has struggled to set the world alight since his arrival at Old Trafford, while Casemiro is reaching the latter stages of his career, so bringing in an up-and-coming option such as Wharton, who has been described as ‘phenomenal’, in the midfield could be beneficial.
