Manchester United midfielder Casemiro is being linked with a move to Saudi Pro League giants Al-Ittihad, where he would reunite with an old comrade.
In the summer of 2022, the 33-year-old completed a £60 million transfer from Real Madrid to play football at Old Trafford. He was regarded as one of, if not the best, holding midfielders in the world at the time.
With a weekly salary of £365k, this move made the Brazilian the highest-paid player at Carrington; however, because of the lack of European football this season, the wage has since been lowered to about £300k.
Even while the seasoned veteran is still a fixture in Ruben Amorim’s plans and Jamie Carragher praised him as “still world-class” last season, it has become increasingly evident that his best days are long gone.
Casemiro’s future at Man United remains uncertain
Stretty News recently stated that despite intriguing offers from the Arab world, Casemiro is still considering his future. He is anticipated to leave Old Trafford sooner or later because his contract with Manchester United expires at the end of the current campaign.
Arriyadiyah.com claims that Karim Benzema has decided to sponsor the Brazilian and has instructed Al-Ittihad to sign his old Real Madrid teammate.
Karim Benzema keen to reunite with Casemiro at Al-Ittihad
For nine years, the two celebrities shared the field at Stadio Bernabeu. Their collaboration came to an end when the midfielder signed a contract with United in 2022, while the French striker left a year later to join a number of elite players who joined Saudi teams in 2023.
However, it should be mentioned that Al-Ittihad may not require another midfield enforcer because they already have Fabinho and N’Golo Kante on their team.
It’s interesting to note that Casemiro was previously mentioned in connection with another Real Madrid reunion in Saudi Arabia. According to certain rumors, he was expected to join Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr, but the exchange never happened.
