Report: Man Utd ‘accelerating’ deal to sign ‘extraordinary’ Baleba alternative alongside Lammens

According to Spanish daily Fichajes, Manchester United is moving quickly to capture Lucien Agoume, a midfielder for Sevilla, before the transfer deadline.

Agoume has been identified by the Old Trafford team as a potential replacement for Carlos Baleba in their pursuit of a new midfield player before the transfer market closes on September 1.

After discovering Brighton’s high demands, which are said to be approximately £120 million, United gave up on the 21-year-old last week.

With a release clause of £35 million, according to Fichajes, Agoume is reportedly one of the top names next on their list and would be significantly less expensive to sign than Baleba.

Man United Chasing Lucien Agoume Deal

Fichajes claims that Agoume has become Ruben Amorim’s “ideal” choice to strengthen his midfield because of his physicality, tactical acumen, and poise under duress, which make him a formidable substitute for Baleba.

A number of Premier League clubs are apparently keeping tabs on the “extraordinary” 23-year-old before the deadline, but United is thought to be the front-runner.

An offer of about €25 million (£21.5 million), including a sell-on fee, is thought to be sufficient to persuade Sevilla to let go of the France U21 player.

The Andalusian team is aware that if a bid is made, they might find it difficult to hold onto the midfield player because Agoume views Sevilla more as a career stepping stone.

Agoume, whose contract expires in June 2028, was instrumental in Sevilla’s domestic campaign the previous season, appearing in 35 La Liga games and contributing four goals.

The seven-time Europa League champions finished 17th, just one point above the drop zone, and he helped the Spanish team barely escape relegation.

Agoume only made four senior games for the Serie A team, including one cameo during their championship-winning 2023–2024 season, before joining Sevilla from Inter Milan in January 2024.

Before the deadline, Man United is also attempting to sign Senne Lammens, the goalkeeper for Royal Antwerp, whose personal terms are nearly finalized.
