Liverpool could now lose their perfect midfield target to Man United after worrying transfer update – opinion

Liverpool have been rather dominant in the transfer market this summer, with the Reds often beating their rivals to their desired targets.

As an illustration of how great their idea must be, consider how Liverpool repelled both Manchester City and Bayern Munich to obtain Florian Wirtz.

Since then, a number of other players have also been added, including Hugo Ekitike, who this summer had a long list of possible suitors.

Although the Reds’ victory in the Premier League last season probably did the majority of the convincing, it’s still very amazing how many players they were able to sign this summer.

But now, one of their rumored targets might be headed to a rival team of the Reds.

Angelo Stiller has been put on Manchester United’s shortlist this summer

Supporters wanted to see Ryan Gravenberch fill that position with a new defensive midfielder at the beginning of the summer.

One player that appeared frequently was Angelo Stiller.

Due to his successful 2024–25 season with Stuttgart, the young German has been in high demand this summer.

However, he has now been added to Manchester United’s shortlist, according to a report published by writer Ben Jacobs via his personal X account.

“One of the midfielders on Manchester United’s list of options is Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller,” he wrote.

“No guarantee anything develops, or that any midfielder arrives, but internal discussions taking place over different targets.

“Stiller has come up in discussions as Manchester United now decide whether to sign another midfielder before the window shuts.”

Angelo Stiller would have been the perfect midfielder for Liverpool

As previously stated, Liverpool was at the forefront of the competition for Stiller early in the summer transfer window.

The German is a considerably more affordable choice than someone like Carlos Baleba, for instance, as a sum of almost £25 million was reported for him back in December.

The arrival of Stiller would also provide defensive midfield some additional cover, and maybe even give Gravenberch a little respite every now and then.

Stiller has been likened to Joshua Kimmich in the past, and given the Reds’ desire for the Bayern Munich player, a trade makes sense.

With four caps already under his belt, the German is obviously ready for a move, should one become available.

Of course, these are all just rumours at the moment, but if Liverpool are serious about bringing in another defensive midfielder, they can’t allow Stiller to join Man United this summer.
