Before the transfer window ends, Manchester United might get a new goalie.
The team lost to Arsenal 1-0 at Old Trafford to start their Premier League campaign.
After being selected as the goalie, Altay Bayindir made a mistake that allowed Arsenal to score.
Andre Onana only had three training sessions following a hamstring injury, hence he was not included in the matchday squad.
Tomorrow’s away match against Fulham is anticipated to see the Cameroon international return to goal.
United has reached an agreement with Senne Lammens and is working to get a new goalkeeper in the interim.
With Royal Antwerp, negotiations are under progress, and a deal is probably going to be concluded before the transfer deadline.
Now that Lammens has arrived, Fabrizio Romano has made it clear that Onana will not rush to leave.
Right now, everything is “very quiet,” and Onana isn’t currently negotiating with any clubs.
Instead of simply replacing the Cameroonian star, Lammens might be signed to give him competition.
United could part ways with Bayindir
For the last two years, Onana has been United’s mainstay in goal, and it is unlikely that the team will let him go before the deadline.
While there have been some memorable performances by the former Inter Milan player at United, there have also been some that have been overlooked.
Over the past two years, Onana has committed more mistakes than any other Premier League keeper—12 that resulted in shots and eight that resulted in goals.
In spite of this, manager Ruben Amorim gave him a vote of confidence earlier this summer, and he is certain to stay this season.
With only a few minutes left, it might be Bayindir making his way to the escape door instead of Onana. Since 2023, he has only made 12 appearances.
Onana and other corners have made Bayindir susceptible, although the former has also struggled with back-row distribution.
With the World Cup approaching next summer, the Turkish star may be open to leaving.
Onana will probably remain United’s number one, but if he makes any more careless mistakes, the gifted Lammens might take his place.
