Manchester United are closing in on the permanent transfer of Belgian international goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Even though United has players like André Onana, Altay Bayındır, and Tom Heaton, it is clear that they need a goalkeeping upgrade at Old Trafford.
Onana was responsible for numerous errors in judgment, allowing goals he should have stopped, even if a lot of last season’s defensive inadequacies were caused by a poor backline that frequently left the goalie exposed.
In contrast, Bayındır has displayed signs of improvement, most notably his performance against Arsenal on the first weekend. However, the goal given up in that particular game made it clear that he is not totally trustworthy.
Lammens, who has undoubtedly been the finest goalkeeper in the Jupiler Pro League, has emerged as a top target, therefore a move for a more dependable goalkeeper should be crucial.
Romano claims that the Red Devils are now speeding up negotiations to formally bring the Belgium international to Old Trafford this summer.
The respectable journalist stated in a prior report that the 23-year-old was negotiating personal terms with the Premier League powerhouses. He now affirms that he and the goalie have come to an arrangement, and the goalie has agreed to join Manchester United this month.

According to Romano, Antwerp is requesting £21 million to allow the 6′ 3″ goalie to leave the Bosuilstadion, but United is now pursuing a permanent transfer for a price of about £17 million plus add-ons.
With the most saves in the division and a solid 78% save rate, Lammens concluded the previous season as the best goalie in the Belgian Pro League.
However, his goals prevented metric—which showed that he denied more than 15 goals above expectations—was arguably the best measure of his ability. To put that into perspective, FotMob reports that André Onana’s figure for the same period was only 0.53.
Tall, agile, authoritative, and courageous enough to take charge of his box, he embodies many of the qualities Man United has been looking for. Lammens promises exactly that to a team that is still in search of a long-term answer between the posts.
Like David de Gea when he first arrived on the beaches at Old Trafford in 2011, Lammens’ abilities indicate he can make the step up and will only get better with time, even though the caliber of finishing in the Premier League is higher.
