Exclusive: Fabrizio Romano says Man Utd close to fifth summer signing after ‘fast’ talks

Manchester United’s efforts to improve the goalkeeping situation at Old Trafford are anticipated to enter pivotal days.

The Red Devils are making quick progress on a deal to sign Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp after attempts to sign Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa in July failed in negotiations because his current employers wanted to keep him.

With an agreement already in place with the goalie, the negotiations are at a fairly advanced point. Lammens has agreed to a long-term contract at Old Trafford, which is significantly less than the reported demands of Gianluigi Donnarumma of Paris Saint-Germain or Martinez. This likely explains why Manchester United hasn’t moved further with either of those two transactions thus far.

Lammens Wants to be Next Amorim Arrival

Lammens didn’t make the starting lineup for Royal Antwerp this weekend because he wants to join Manchester United. What follows? The two clubs’ talks are moving quickly; at first, they are talking about €17 million plus add-ons to complete a €20 million package, but Royal Antwerp wants €25 million (£22 million) to close the deal.

Given Lammens’ desire to join Ruben Amorim’s Red Devils and fulfill his dream move, there isn’t much of a valuation difference. Everyone expects an agreement to be reached before to the deadline.

There are currently no bids or suggestions for the goalkeeper, and he is still focused on Manchester United, so sources at the club assure us that this does not imply that Andre Onana will leave in the closing days of the transfer window.

Although nothing is happening at the moment, it is still possible because the Turkish and Saudi markets will be open for ten more days than the European window. The same is true for Altay Bayindir, whose condition should also be closely watched in the coming days.

Lammens would therefore be a current and long-term investment for Manchester United. Based on his performances, he would challenge Onana in the present and eventually take over as the Red Devils’ goalkeeper in the upcoming years or months.
