Two frontrunners have emerged to replace Ruben Amorim if he is sacked by Manchester United following a torrid first nine months as Red Devils’ head coach.
As the club’s replacement to Erik ten Hag, Amorim, 40, took over as manager of Manchester United on November 1.
After leading Sporting CP to three Primeira Liga titles and two Taca da Ligas in four and a half seasons with the Lisbon-based club, the Portuguese arrived with a stellar reputation.
But since moving to Old Trafford, things have not gone as smoothly as the 40-year-old would have hoped.
In addition to losing 1-0 to Spurs in the Europa League final back in May, United finished a record-low 15th in the Premier League in 2024–2025.
Additionally, United’s 2025–26 season has started poorly despite introducing four new players to the team: Bryan Mbeumo, Diego Leon, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko.
After losing 1-0 to Arsenal and drawing 1-1 against Fulham on Sunday, the Red Devils have only managed one point from their first two games this season.
Since joining United, Amorim has already managed 29 Premier League games. His team has only amassed 28 points in the English top division, yielding a dismal 24.7% win rate.
Former Manchester United striker and club-record goal scorer Wayne Rooney discussed his belief that Amorim had no more time for “excuses” this season on Monday’s episode of “The Wayne Rooney Show.”
Rooney asserted, “The manager has no more excuses this season.” “If the results don’t change significantly by October or November, then that’s when the pressure starts, so he needs to start getting results and get them fast.”
Furthermore, there are currently no indications that United is thinking about changing their head coach, but as Rooney stated, pressure will start to build if the team’s performance doesn’t improve.
If Amorim were to leave United, who would be the most likely candidates to take his place?
Unfortunately for Crystal Palace supporters, Oddchecker now has Oliver Glasner, their head coach, as the equal favorite at odds of 4/1.
While out of work former England manager Gareth Southgate is also the joint favourite at odds of 4/1.
