Kobbie Mainoo has told Chelsea one thing needs to happen to complete shock Man Utd exit

Chelsea already know what they must do to sign Kobbie Mainoo from Manchester United in a shock move.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who was not used as a substitute in the first two Premier League games of the season, has once again been linked to a move away from Old Trafford.

Mainoo’s absence was explained by United manager Ruben Amorim as a result of his direct competition for a spot in the squad with captain Bruno Fernandes.

Mainoo now faces a serious issue over Fernandes’ future, considering he has only missed eight Premier League games in his five and a half years at Old Trafford.

The England international midfielder is now amenable to leaving United prior to the September 1 summer transfer deadline, according to talkSPORT.

Mainoo is ‘unhappy’ with his circumstances at Old Trafford, according to journalist Graeme Bailey, because five clubs are reportedly interested in signing him, including Chelsea and Tottenham.

The other Premier League teams mentioned include Brentford, Brighton, and Fulham; however, like United, they would not be able to provide Mainoo with the chance to play in Europe this season.

If given the chance, that would surely play a role in his decision to sign with Chelsea or Spurs, but the Blues might be better able to accommodate his needs.

According to a March report by GiveMeSport, Mainoo wants to make around £180,000 a week if he moves permanently away from United.

Capology claims the amount would place him in the top five Chelsea earners and equal Enzo Fernandez’s compensation.

The only player for Tottenham, on the other hand, who makes more than Mainoo’s alleged desired wage is captain Cristian Romero, whose new contract was signed earlier this month and pays him £195,000 per week.

What has Mainoo said about his Man Utd future?

Like many young Manchester United players, Mainoo rarely gave interviews during his first few seasons as a professional player. The team typically tries to keep young players from getting too much media attention.

However, during the Chicago preseason, the 20-year-old did talk to MUTV about how much he enjoyed playing as a holding midfielder.

He remarked, “It’s been good,” “I think it’s worked great to play in there with Manu [Ugarte], Bruno, or any of them, Casemiro, Toby [Collyer], and now Matheus.

“I’m looking towards the season and I’ll see what happens.”

It’s unclear if he’ll be playing for a new team in the upcoming season.
