Just in: Newcastle contact Man Utd to sign £60m star, he’s open to leaving

Journalist Jason Soutar claims that Newcastle United has contacted Manchester United to find out the terms of a trade for Kobbie Mainoo.

After playing no minutes in United’s first two Premier League games, Mainoo’s position at Old Trafford is currently in doubt. Given that the Red Devils haven’t won a game since the season began, the England international has every reason to be annoyed by Ruben Amorim’s present attitude toward the midfield player.

Newcastle has had a challenging summer transfer window thus far, failing to close deals for some of their top targets. Although Aaron Ramsdale, Malick Thiaw, Anthony Elanga, and Jacob Ramsey have all shown up at St. James’ Park, it is arguable that only one or two of them will be surefire starters in Eddie Howe’s starting lineup.

Newcastle Contact Man Utd to Sign Kobbie Mainoo

Reporting on X, Soutar has claimed that Newcastle have entered the race to sign Mainoo this summer and have asked Manchester United about the conditions of a potential deal.

“Exclusive: Newcastle United are in for Kobbie Mainoo and have asked Manchester United about the conditions of a deal. #NUFC Player open to leaving #MUFC. One to watch.”

The England player is willing to leave the team. According to earlier reports from GIVEMESPORT, the Red Devils may demand around £60 million for him to leave. Many United supporters, understandably, expected Mainoo to play a part under Amorim, so this is a bit of an unexpected situation that has arisen in recent weeks.

So far this season, the Portuguese manager has chosen players like Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, and Manuel Ugarte over him. With the World Cup approaching next summer, it seems like Mainoo would benefit from leaving, at least on loan.

Mainoo will probably be itching to start for England on a regular basis, but if he stays on the bench at Old Trafford, he won’t even be able to make the team. After graduating from Carrington’s academy, the young midfielder will have to make a difficult choice, but he must make sure he’s giving himself the best chance to play frequently and advance as a player.
