According to numerous rumors, Mainoo has been dissatisfied with his bit-part role under Ruben Amorim and is willing to leave Old Trafford this summer after missing their first two Premier League games.
According to the Mail, eleven clubs have shown interest in Mainoo overall, and several have gotten in touch with him since Monday. United is reportedly expected to make a decision regarding his future within the next 48 hours.
While Real Madrid and local rivals Atletico are reportedly keeping an eye on his status until the transfer market closes on September 1, Chelsea has long been a fan and is presently one of the favorites to make a move.
Mainoo, meanwhile, is thought to prefer a move to the continent over a Premier League stay, according to The Athletic, who report ‘there is a belief’ United would now accept around £45 million or potentially even less.
Man Utd stance on Kobbie Mainoo transfer made clear
Sky Sports claims that despite several rumors that the player is amenable to departing, Mainoo has not yet communicated his position to the team.
According to Dharmesh Sheth and Mark McAdam’s report, a loan agreement is seen “very unlikely” as United is “happy with Mainoo and are not actively looking to let him go.”
John O’Shea, a former Manchester United defender, mirrored the sentiments of many United supporters during the rumors.
“He’s a quality player, United cannot afford to be losing him or selling him for any reason whatsoever,” he stated on talkSPORT. “He’s definitely part of the future of the club and he’s going to be successful without a doubt.”
Ruben Amorim noted that Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes are directly vying for a spot in the squad following last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Fulham.
According to O’Shea, he thought it was “slightly strange” that the United boss mentioned Fernandes when discussing Mainoo.
“I just found that a little bit strange,” he replied. “I’m aware that he’s likely setting up a challenge for him, telling him, ‘Listen, that’s who you’re up against.'”
“Bruno has obviously been a top performer for the last few season, so it’s a little bit strange, but hopefully it’s just a bit of a wake-up call for Mainoo to do something a bit different.”
